- Description
Fertiss Plugs Make Propagation Easy!
Fertiss plugs are ready to use plugs dedicated to the propagation of young plants raised from cuttings or seedlings. Fertiss plugs are made from fine blond sphagnum peat, perlite, and vermiculite. They are a true living product meaning the medium hasn't been sterilised retaining a natural, healthy balance of soil organisms.
The plugs are wrapped in a non-woven mesh that allows the roots to easily penetrate, once the roots are visible the plants can be handled and re-potted.
These plugs come in a 50 cell tray.
Handy Tips
PRESERVATION: After a long period of storage Fertiss plugs will dry out, however they are still usable. To keep them optimal we only stock a small amount at a time.
IRRIGATION: Before using Fertiss Plugs slightly humidify the plugs, they must be dark brown. If they become black or the bottom of the plug is shiny they are too wet. Once they are dampened allow a few minutes for the water to distribute through-out the plug.
PLANTING: Insert your cuttings or seeds 2.5-3cm into the plug.
CIRCULATION: It is important to allow air to circulate under the trays, this will accelerate root growth.
FERTILISER: Fertiss plugs are intentionally without fertiliser.
ROOTING: As soon as the roots appear through the non-woven mesh wraps, the plant is ready for transplant in to a bigger pot. We recommend Root Pouches. Root Pouches will allow for air pruning of the roots giving you wider root spread, more surface area for nutrient uptake, and as the saying goes "bushier roots = bushier shoots"
Some mould may appear of the plugs, this is entirely normal and natural. The mould is safe to the crops and fill the place more harmful pathogenic fungi would otherwise occupy.
